Stephani ekes out win in 10K Swiss
Winners of the 10K Swiss Teams: Bob Gorsey, Carole Weinstein, Margot Hennings and captain AJ Stephani
Boosted by wins in their final two matches, the squad captained by AJ Stephani leapfrogged Daniel Jackson’s team at the wire to win the NABC 0–10,000 Swiss Teams by a mere 0.65 victory points.
Playing with Stephani of Cincinnati OH were Margot Hennings of Annandale VA, Carole Weinstein of Waltham MA and Bob Gorsey of Burlington MA. Stephani, Hennings and Weinstein are all members of the ACBL Board of Directors.
Jackson, of San Antonio TX, played with Bill McCarty, also of San Antonio, Mike Doyle of Katy TX and Guss Ginsburg of New Orleans LA. Although the Stephani team won the qualifying round on Saturday, Jackson had built almost a full match lead in Sunday’s final. Stephani, however, won their final two matches, while the Jackson team faded, allowing Stephani to overtake them … barely. Stephani finished with 109.85 VPs; Jackson’s total was 109.20 VPs.
